Bridge collapse leave 3 workers injured, 1 of them severely

In a tragic example of an ordinary workday turned bad, three contractors received injuries when Pennsylvania's Ridgeway Bridge on U.S. Route 219 collapsed on June 18. Reports about the collapse began to circulate at around 2 p.m., many of them citing multiple injuries at the scene of the accident. A spokesperson with the contracting company later confirmed three workers were injured, one of them a company employee and two others identified as subcontractors.

Do our current child support guidelines lead to fair results?

Two professors from Arizona State University recently released a study of people's sense of fairness about child support determinations in the U.S. and England. The professors, who teach law and psychology, were interested in understanding the public's views on child support, custody and alimony as currently determined, and whether the legal rules ought to be changed.

Job injury benefits available through workers' compensation

Pottstown employees who are injured while working can qualify for benefits. Workers' compensation insurance is paid by employers to cover financial hardships suffered by injured workers. The benefits' amount and length of time compensation is available depends upon how an injury affects the person's ability to work.

Did Marriott knowingly expose unprotected workers to chemicals?

A group of hotel housekeepers in another state recently filed a purported class-action lawsuit against Marriott International, claiming the hotel chain willfully -- or even intentionally -- exposed them to toxic chemicals without training or personal protective equipment. That in itself is a big deal; the fine for violating federal hazardous workplace chemical regulations is $10,000 per day per worker exposed.

Aren't there any industries that take workplace safety seriously?

Sometimes it seems as if almost every company in almost every industry has to be constantly policed if they are to treat their employees lawfully, particularly when it comes to safety. If it does, it could be because we work with injured people a lot, so we don't get to see all the good companies who are doing their best.
