When Pennsylvania workers are injured on their jobs, there are more problems to worry about many times than just the medical issues. Financial issues can also be a problem, especially if the worker is out of work for a significant period of time. That’s where workers’ compensation comes in, though.
There are many benefits of workers’ compensation; however, in order to be eligible to receive them, the injury or illness must be reported as soon as possible. Once a claim is made, the worker’s employer is who will deny or accept it. Should the employer deny the claim, then an appeal can be filed.
If the claim or appeal is approved, the worker may receive some or all of the following benefits:
— Payments for the worker’s lost wages. These are available if the worker is unable to work and is considered totally disabled or if the worker is considered partially disabled and is getting less in wages than before the injury or illness.
— Medical care. Medical services are available and include medicine, orthopedic prostheses, hospital treatment and more. Your employer may decide to provide a list of six or more doctors that you must go to for your initial treatment. You will need to continue to see that doctor for 90 days after you first see him or her. If your employer doesn’t accept your claim and doesn’t post such a list, then you can visit the health care provider you want.
