Man killed in Pennsylvannia industrial accident

A 55-year-old man from Penn Township was killed while working at Aarcon Enterprises Inc. in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, last Thursday. According to the company's website, it provides heavy construction equipment and operators for sites with major improvement projects, such as natural gas well pads and housing.

The man was trapped on the floor beneath a counterweight for a piece of heavy equipment He was pronounced dead by the deputy coroner at the accident scene, passing away from blunt-force injuries.

The North Huntingdon Township police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating the accident. The man's employer may be found to be at fault for the accident. The company is about 35 miles east of Pittsburg.

Workplace injuries can happen in the blink of an eye, especially when safety protocol is not followed. It is not known yet how the counterweight fell, but yet another worker's life was lost. Employers have a responsibility to their employees to provide a safe work environment. When an employee is injured or killed, OSHA responds to determine the cause of the accident and to see if the employer was not following safety practices. If the safety practices are not followed, the company can be issued fines by the Federal safety agency.

If you or someone you loved is injured in a construction accident, you may have a chance to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, disability and much more. Your workers' compensation death benefit would also be paid to your family if you lost your life while working on the job.
